LA GRANDE, Ore. — For the second time in as many weeks, a Bartel has been named the Cascade Collegiate Conference wrestler of the week.
One week after Andrew Bartel captured the honor, his younger brother Isaac was named the league’s wrestler of the week on Monday. The sophomore from Mason, Iowa captured a first-place finish at the Northwest College Trapper Open over the weekend, defeating University of Providence’s John Hensley in a 16-5 major decision in the final. Hensley was ranked No. 8 in the nation for the Argos.
Bartel earned a pair of technical falls, 23-1 and 15-0, in his first two matches before facing off with Hensley in the Trapper Open 197-pound championship.
MSU-Northern earned four first-place finishes, with Nick Kunz (125 pounds), Brandon Weber (157 pounds) and Steeler French (184 pounds) capturing individual titles.
Providence saw six athletes win championships — Eli Walston (133), TJ Baun (141), Shonn Roberts (149), Jordan Komac (165), Adrian Lyons-Lopez (174) and Mathew Hopkins (285).
The Argos and Lights combined to win all 12 titles.
