LA GRANDE, Ore. — MSU-Northern senior Andrew Bartel was named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Red Lion men’s wrestler of the week, the league announced on Monday.
The Mason, Iowa native earned a dominating 13-0 major decision during last Thursday’s dual against North Idaho College. Bartel, the 165-pound senior, lifted the No. 3 Lights to a 35-3 victory, with MSU-Northern winning nine of the 10 matches.
Bartel and MSU-Northern continued the weekend at the prestigious Cowboy Open in Laramie, Wyo. with four wrestlers earning top-four finishes. Bartel placed runner-up in the 165-pound elite class, while Isaac Bartel added a second-place finish at 197 pounds in the elite class.
Chase Short finished second at 174 pounds of the amateur ranks, while Jase Stokes was fourth at 285 pounds.
Bartel and the Lights return to the mats for the Trapper Open at Northwest College in Powell, Wyo.
