HELENA -- It might not be golfing weather in Montana, but Helena Capital's Gabe Witham committed to play golf for the Montana Tech Orediggers on Friday in front of friends, family and his new coach on Friday.
Witham finished his high school career tied for fourth place in the Class AA state tournament fighting through whatever the elements threw his way, and it was that tournament that showed his resiliency on the golf course.
"Gabe honestly had a really good senior year. Was interested in Montana Tech and I was interested in Gabe," said Orediggers golf coach Sean Ryan. "A top-five finish at (the Class AA state tournament), in the condition that they played in -- everybody saw, wind and snow -- shows a lot of fortitude and shows that he's got the game to play at the college level."
"I feel like I'm going to fit in good there," said Witham. "I know a bunch of people on the golf team and a bunch that are coming to the golf team who are seniors now. So, I feel like I'm going to fit in good there."
While Witham still has a few months before he'll walk a course as an Oredigger, Montana Tech will take aim at their spring season in 2020.
