EAST HELENA -- In a tough year for sporting events, the East Helena Valley Rodeo added its name to the list of cancellations Wednesday morning.
Katie Bakke told MTN Sports canceling the event was never something the rodeo committee wanted to do, noting the economic impact the rodeo brings to the surrounding areas.
"Our numbers have increased over the last few years. We've had record-breaking weekends and it does benefit the city of East Helena and Helena," said Bakke in a phone interview. "We're heartbroken to have to do it during this time. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is this year."
Despite canceling this year's rodeo, Bakke told MTN that she, and the rest of the rodeo committee, can't wait to host the event in 2021.
"We'll be back in 2021. I fully, fully believe in that," said Bakke.
