GLENDIVE - Fresh off of winning the Region XIII Championship in exciting style on Saturday night, the Dawson Community College Buccaneers are on their way to Iowa to play in the North Central District Championship Game.
Dawson will face the No. 4 ranked team in the country, Indian Hills Community College, on Thursday at 6 p.m. MST. The winner of the District Championship will get an automatic berth in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.
IHCC clinched the Region XI Championship on Saturday night beating Southeastern Community College 72-58. It was their 12th straight victory and brought their overall record to 29-3 on the season. Their only three losses were to Northwest Florida State by 1, Gulf Coast State College by 1 and Southeastern by 4 points.
The Warriors are one of the best defensive teams in the country, holding opponents to 35% shooting from the field (2nd best in the country); 29% from 3-point range (9th best) and 62 points per game (7th best). Indian Hills has been one of the top Junior College programs in the country for several years.
The Warriors have won 23 games or more every season since 2015 and have sent 34 players to the Division I level in that time span. They have won 10 straight regular season Region XI championships and have made it to Nationals for the past 6 seasons.
Dawson clinched the Region XIII Championship with a thrilling 96-95 victory over Miles Community College after Camron Dunfee made a free throw with five seconds remaining in front of a near capacity crowd. It was the first Region title since 1971.
The Buccaneers have won 17 games in a row and haven't lost since the beginning of 2020. They've won by double digits in 14 of those games during their streak. Their record stands at 27-6. During this historic season, they have captured the Pre-season Conference Tournament Championship, the Mon-Dak Conference Championship and the Region Championship. Dawson is currently 12th in the country in points scored and steals, and 14th in offensive rebounding.
