SPEARFISH, SD - The Dawson Community College track and field teams continued to improve recently at the Stinger Open Indoor Meet at Black Hills State University.
"The team raced against NCAA and NAIA schools within the region and were able to continue to be competitive at a high level," said coach Alex Chase. "We have a few weeks to continue to improve before our next meet and I am excited to see what the outdoor season has in store for us."
Kayla Parisian raced in the 800 meters and took sixth place. She ran strong through the first half of the race and continued to push and hold on tough through the end of the race. Her overall sixth place scored the Buccaneers their points for the weekend at the meet.
Zach Austin worked on his speed this weekend and raced a strong 800 meters as well. He began the race cautious but ended strong by powering through and passing a number of competitors throughout the final part of the race. He placed fifth in his heat.
In the 400 meters, Austin Roberts raced tough and set a solid foundation to build on as outdoor season approaches. Peter Unteresher competed in the 3,000 meters on Saturday and set a huge personal best time.
The Buccaneers have a starting point from these early races to build on and will get to work to prepare for the upcoming outdoor track season.
DCC's first outdoor meet is scheduled for March 21 at the Yellow Jacket/Battlin' Bear Open in Laurel.
