BILLINGS -- Carrie Carpenter is chasing her second consecutive high school tournament win of the young season and in doing so has the Billings West girls out to a six-shot lead over Bozeman halfway through the Billings Golf Invite.
Carpenter shot a 69 Monday at Peter Yegen Golf Course to lead Laurel's Haylee Adams by one. Carpenter also won last week's Great Falls Invitational. West's girls sit at 310 followed by Bozeman (316), Laurel (321) and Billings Senior (359).
Bozeman's J.R. Small leads the boys field after an opening-round 66 on the same course. Bozeman (286) is on top of Laurel (298) by 12 strokes. Billings Central (317), Billings West (319) and Great Falls High (368) round out the top five team scores.
The final round will be played Tuesday at Lake Hills Golf Course with tee times scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m.
