The fourth-ranked Montana State hockey team gave second-ranked University of Providence all it could handle on Saturday, outlasting the Argos 3-2 in a shootout victory.
Ryan Perius and Jay Forbes netted the goals for the Bobcats in the contest, and Forbes and Ryan Padden had the shootout goals to seal the win.
The night before, the Bobcats lost to Providence 4-1 in Bozeman.
“Providence is a very good team, well-coached and they play hard. This weekend two of the best teams in the west had two good games,” said MSU coach Dave Weaver. “I was proud of the team for their effort. Lots to work on, but it gives us a good indication of where we are heading towards the playoffs.“
MSU will take on the Eastern Washington Eagles in Cheney, Washington next weekend and return home to play Providence again Feb. 14.
