BILLINGS -- Synthetic field turf moves one step closer to reality Thursday at Amend Park in Billings after officials announced a groundbreaking ceremony for noon.
The athletic complex fields youth and adult soccer, lacrosse and cross country among other activities.
The Billings Parks and Recreation Department announced the move on Monday accompanied by notable guidelines.
"Out of concern for public safety, strict social distancing requirements will be in place for anyone in attendance," said Community Outreach and Engagement Coordinator Paul Reinhardt. "We will be narrowing the scope of the groundbreaking event and will instead organize a time to take a few quick pictures of a small group breaking soil at the project (while maintaining social distancing)."
Pictures will be posted to the Billings Parks and Rec Facebook page and website as a virtual groundbreaking. Additionally, Billings Parks and Rec will post a short virtual groundbreaking video on its social media pages and YouTube channel.
"We believe the safety of our community is most important during this time, but we still would like to find a way to celebrate this exciting project," Reinhardt said.
Those attending are encouraged to maintain social distancing through the entirety of the event and adhere to all CDC COVID-19 guidelines.
