LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Helena native Sean O'Malley suffered his first professional mixed martial arts loss to Marlon "Chito" Vera on Saturday at UFC 252 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Vera won by TKO over O'Malley at the 4:40 mark of the first round of the co-main event.

Late in the first round, O'Malley appeared to step awkwardly on his right leg where his foot and lower leg twisted. After that, O'Malley appeared to take a more defensive approach to the fight, and eventually Vera was able to knock O'Malley down and finished him with elbows to the head before the referee called a stop to the fight.

O'Malley (12-1, 4-1 UFC) appeared to be unable to put weight on his right leg when Vera was announced as the winner and was clearly in pain when the fight was called to a stop.

The UFC tweeted a video of O'Malley being carted off after the fight.
