LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Riding with a broken leg and torn ligaments in his knee, J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.) did the impossible when he won the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Unleash The Beast Bad Boy Mowdown in Little Rock, Arkansas, on Saturday night.

The two-time PBR World Champion went an unbelievable 3-for-3 during the two-day event and rocketed from 50th to 9th in the PBR World Standings.

On Friday night Mauney picked up 88.25 points aboard Skyfall (Silver Creek/Winston/Melton Bull Co.). Then on Saturday in Round 2 he rode Stone Cold Crazy (Hodges/Shuler) for 84.5 points.

Mauney confidently chose Big Black (K-C Bucking Bulls/Joe & Nina Webb) for his championship round bull. The North Carolina cowboy knew by choosing the big black bull he had a good chance to win the round.

“The last two guys that picked that bull both went 90 points on him,” Mauney said. “I knew I just had to ride and I’d get the win. I did what I had to do, it’s that simple. Getting back up when you’re down is just about being a cowboy.”

Mauney overpowered Big Black for 90.75 points and a tie for the round win. With the win he earned 545 world points along with $37,150.

It was Mauney’s first event win since April 2017.

Finishing in second place was last year’s Little Rock winner, Luciano De Castro (Guzolandia, Brazil). De Castro rode Bulls Eye for 88.5 points in Round 1 on Friday night but bucked off Smooth Over (GT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle) in 7.67 seconds in Round 2.

In the championship round however, De Castro got one back when he went 8 aboard Canadian Mist (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co.) for 90.75 points and the tie for the championship round win.

With the finish, De Castro earned 380 world points and $19,800. He moved up one spot from No. 4 to No. 5 in the world standings.

Eduardo Aparecido (Gouvelandia, Brazil) finished in third place, earning 242.5 world points. He rode Invizibull Fire in Round 1 but couldn’t get past Calm Intentions (Torres Brothers Bucking Bulls LLC) in Round 2. He was able to make the whistle on Milky Chance (Hart Cattle Company) in the championship round for 88.5 points.

Aparecido took home a paycheck of $10,325 and is now 28th in the world standings.

In fourth place was Tennessee cowboy Cody Nance (Paris, Tennessee). He bucked off Eat More Chicken (Ronnie Chism Farm & Ranch) in Round 2 but took Bezerk to the whistle for 87.75 points in the championship round.

Nance earned 157.5 points along with $6,125. He is now 19th in the world.

Rounding out the Top 5 was Round 1 winner Dakota Buttar (Kindersley, Saskatchewan). Buttar earned 110 world points despite bucking off both his bulls on Saturday night. He is ranked 23rd in the world standings.

The YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the Event was The Right Stuff (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Diamond Willow/Smith/Nix/Owens), who dispatched Taylor Toves (Stephenville, Texas) in 3.00 seconds in the championship round.

Saturday’s Round 2 and championship round will be viewable Sunday starting at 8 a.m. ET on RidePass.com or via the RidePass mobile app.
Next up for the Unleash The Beast series will be the U.S. Border Patrol Invitational in Duluth, Georgia, on March 9 & 10.
