CHEYENNE – Rodeo’s Daddy of ‘Em All is bumping right along this week at Cheyenne Frontier Days in Wyoming, which only makes it appropriate that a couple of Wyoming guys are combining to light up the bareback standings.
A couple of Wyoming ‘wicks’ – Hard and South – entertained fans on Tuesday when bareback rider Seth Hardwick got on a bucking horse from the Rocky Mountain Rodeo Co. string owned by Glenn Southwick.
Hardwick has a place in the little northern Wyoming hamlet of Ranchester while Southwick resides in the smaller Jay Em along the old Texas Trail.
They were randomly paired to put Hardwick at the top of the leaderboard securing a trip to the Sunday Finals.
“There’s nothing like riding against the best guys in the world,” said Hardwick. “I’m a believer that you’re only as good as your competition. It just seems you step up everybody’s game when you’re riding against 11 of the greatest guys in the world in the short round. You just step up your game and you just ride better, too.”
Hardwick’s first horse on Monday helped earn one of the top bareback scores this year at Cheyenne.
