NAMPA, Idaho – The reigning saddle bronc riding world champion is on a roll.

Ryder Wright punctuated that roll by winning the Snake River Stampede in Nampa July 21.

Wright had a ride of 84 points on Cervi Championship Rodeo’s Rodeo Houston’s On Fire to give him a two-head average of 171 points.

The 20-year-old from Milford, Utah, also won the first round with an 87-point ride on Bailey Pro Rodeo’s James Bond.

“It’s great to win any rodeo, but it’s really cool to win those big ones,” said Wright, who earned $9,382 in Nampa.

The win was just the latest in a string of big-money earnings the defending world champion has had this summer.

Since the beginning of June, Wright has had wins in excess of $4,000 in Cody, Wyo., Pecos, Texas, Belle Fourche, S.D., and Sisters, Ore., and more than $3,000 in Molalla, Ore.

“It’s been pretty good all year,” Wright said. “It was a little bit slower in the spring and winter rodeos. Then in the summer run it’s been really good to me. I’ve had real good luck drawing.

“I guess I’m on a heater. Whatever it is, I like it.”

At 19, Wright cleaned up at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas last December. He won $185,577 at the Wrangler NFR, finishing the 2017 season with $284,938 to capture the world title.

Wright loves having that gold buckle, but when it comes to competing, he tries to focus on other things.

“I try not to think about that when I’m getting on because I have to go do the same thing I was doing before winning the world title,” he said. “I set that aside and do my job.”

Other winners at the $401,424 rodeo were all-around cowboy Trevor Brazile ($5,384 in tie-down roping and team roping); bareback rider Bill Tutor (176 points on two head); steer wrestlers Tyler Pearson and Hunter Cure (12.2 seconds on three head each); team ropers Bubba Buckaloo/Tyler Worley (16.0 seconds on three head); tie-down roper Ryle Smith (24.7 seconds on three head); barrel racer Meka Farr (31.02 seconds on two runs); and bull rider Dustin Boquet (161.5 points on two head).
