MUNICH — Great Falls native Josh Huestis will continue his professional basketball career overseas after signing a contract with FC Bayern Munich, a German club in the EuroLeague.

Huestis, a 2014 first round pick of the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Draft, last played for the Austin Spurs of the NBA G-League. Prior to that he spent four years with the Thunder and their G-League affiliate the Blue.

In 2017-18 Huestis appeared in 69 games for the Thunder, with averages of 2.3 points and 2.3 rebounds over 14.2 minutes.

“I’m really excited to be able to have this new experience in a new country and come to Munich,” Huestis said in the club’s announcement. “I know that Bayern is one of the most successful clubs ever. It has always been my ambition to play at the highest level and win championships.”

Huestis had hoped to catch on with another NBA team, but overseas clubs don’t come more successful than FC Bayern. Munich has won the past two Bundesliga national championships, and regularly advances deep into the EuroCup and EuroLeague competitions.

“The EuroLeague is an incredible competition that is about competing every night and has many good NBA players, like Derrick Williams last year,” Huestis continued. “My strength is playing defense and I tend to be the guy who wants to work hardest for the team. I want to deliver in this way and make my contribution.”

“I’ve been following Josh since he was a college student, he’s a modern combo forward who will give us a lot of energy and versatility,” Bayern sporting director Daniele Baiesi said in the release. “Josh is a smart player with a mature demeanor, his playing style fits in perfectly with the guys who are with us and those who will join us. We are very happy that he has decided to continue his career with us.”
