BROOKLYN – Poplar native Hunter Azure will put his undefeated mixed martial arts record on the line against fellow undefeated bantamweight Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC 249 on April 18.

Azure, who won his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut over Brad Katona in September, is 8-0 as a professional and 1-0 in the UFC. Nurmagomedov (12-0), making his UFC debut, is the cousin of UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, who will headline the event in a title fight against Tony Ferguson.

Azure was a four-time state wrestling champion at Poplar High School. His college wrestling career at MSU-Northern was marred by injuries which led him to give up the sport to train full-time in mixed martial arts.

He was 6-0 as a professional before earning a UFC contract on Dana White’s Contender Series by defeating Chris Ocon in a unanimous decision.

UFC 249 is scheduled for Saturday, April 18 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.
