SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — Billings golfer Leslie Spalding shot a final-round 77 Sunday to finish in a tie for 38th at the U.S. Senior Women’s Open at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.

The Billings Senior High School graduate opened the four-day tournament Thursday with a 4-over-par round of 75 to put her in a tie for eighth. She fell back into the field Friday and Saturday, before gaining one position on Sunday. Spalding was in the top 30 at only +3 through 14 holes in her final round, but she bogeyed three of the final four.

Helen Alfredsson won the tournament at a 1-over-par 285, two strokes ahead of Trish Johnson and Juli Inkster. The full leaderboard can be seen here.

Spalding, a University of Alabama alum, is the women’s head golf coach at San Diego State. Her Aztecs won the Mountain West Conference Tournament championship earlier this month by one stroke.
