SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — Billings golfer Leslie Spalding is only three shots off the lead after one round at the U.S. Senior Women’s Open at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.

The Billings Senior High School graduate opened the four-day tournament Thursday with a 4-over-par round of 75. She was consistent throughout the day with the exceptions of a double-bogey on the second and bogeys on two of her final three holes.

Danielle Ammaccapane leads the tournament with a 1-over-par 72 followed by a three-way tie for second place among Nanci Bowen, Liselotte Neumann and Barbara Moxness. The full leaderboard can be seen here.

Spalding will tee off Friday at 8:03 a.m. (EDT) on the 10th hole.

The University of Alabama alum is the women’s head golf coach at San Diego State. Her Aztecs won the Mountain West Conference Tournament championship earlier this month by one stroke.
