ST. GEORGE, Utah – Brandon McIver shot a final-round 4-under-par 66 Friday to finish fourth in the first stage of Web.com Tour Qualifying and advance to the second stage next month.

McIver finished the four-day tournament at the SunRiver Golf Club at 20-under-par (260), two shots behind leaders Bio Kim and Rhett Rasmussen. But the more important part was finishing inside the top 21 and ties to advance to the second stage of qualifying for the Web.com Tour, which serves as a minor league for the PGA Tour.

A 2012 Billings West High School graduate, McIver came into the final round with a nine-shot cushion on the cut line and cruised to qualification, a welcome sight after missing the cut by one shot in this tournament last year.

“It’s kind of a thing you want to get off your back,” McIver said. “Seeing a course the second time around, especially in a tournament, it kind of gives you peace of mind knowing what’s out there, knowing where your shots are going and what clubs you’re going to hit off certain tees.

“I was just happy and fortunate to play well this week. I think I’m playing some of the best I’ve played this summer, so that’s reassuring and gives me a lot of confidence going forward.”

His second-round 61 on Wednesday was the low round of the entire 72-player field.

McIver will play the second stage likely at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas Nov. 6-9. The Web.com Tour Qualifying Finals are set for Dec. 6-9 in Chandler, Ariz.

McIver won three Class AA individual state championships from 2009-11 at West. He then played at the University of Oregon and was a member of the Ducks’ 2016 NCAA national championship team.
