Ryggs Johnston, Jordan Verge highlight first-ever Montana AJGA tournament

BIG SKY – In the first-ever American Junior Golf Association tournament in Montana history, Libby’s Ryggs Johnston and Bozeman’s Jordan Verge are the top two golfers representing the Treasure State. After one round, Johnston and Verge are tied in second in the standings at 3-under par, shooting a 69.

Verge was on fire in Round 1, recording four birdies in the first nine holes of play and six total for his opening round.

On the girls side, Billings West standout Carrie Carpenter is tied for 15th place after a 7-over round of 79. In her grouping in the first round was Bozeman’s Cora Rosanova.

Dillon Stewart of Fort Collins, Colorado currently leads the field after shooting a 66 in Round 1 with five birdies and an eagle. The Oklahoma State commit already has one AJGA victory this year at the Hale Irwin Colorado Junior tournament and ranks 199 in the Rolex AJGA Rolex Rankings.

Leading the girls division is Elena Zheng of Fuzhou, China. She’s playing in her third AJGA event of the season and recorded three birdies and an eagle on Saturday, leading her to a even-par round (72).

Round 2 of the tournament begins on Sunday, and the tournament concludes with a final round on Moday.
