Bozeman starts 2020 with a sweep of Butte
The Bozeman Icedogs swept the Butte Cobras in their first series of 2020, prevailing by scores of 7-1 and 11-4 on Jan. 3 and 4. in North American Three Hockey League (NA3HL) action.
Seven different Icedogs would score in the 7-1 road win in Butte, and Conan Hayton would make 39 saves as the defense shut out the Cobras in two of the three periods. Butte’s lone goal would come on the power play in the third.
Saturday, the Icedogs would continue their offensive explosion with 11 goals. Will Kutch had a four-point night with his two goals and two assists, and Cooper Walsh would chip in with a goal and four assists.
Bozeman trails the Great Falls Americans by one point in the Frontier Division. Great Falls was able to jump ahead of Bozeman after the Icedogs lost on New Year’s Eve, 4-3 in a shootout. Bozeman plays Great Falls this Friday at home in Bozeman with a 7:30 p.m. faceoff at the Hayes Pavillion.
Butte struggles against high-powered Sheridan
The Butte Cobras played both games this past weekend in Sheridan, Wyo., against the Hawks.
Kyler Garsjo would stun the Hawks by scoring the game’s first goal on Friday and Ty Stovin scored another, and Butte goalie Danny Fielding made 61 saves, but the Butte Cobras lost on Friday by a score of 8-2.
On Saturday, Garsjo and Stovin would again be the scoring with a goal apiece, but the Cobras again lost by an 8-2 score. Aiden Waal made 55 saves in net for the Cobras.
The Cobras will host the Yellowstone Quake next weekend for a two-game series in Butte. Yellowstone comes into town in fifth place and a 4-5-1 record in its past 10 games.
