HELENA — Day 3 of the 24th annual Keith Sell American Legion Baseball tournament is in the books. Below are wrap-ups from each of Thursday’s games. For the Day 1 wrap-up, please click here. For the Day 2 wrap-up, please click here.
Bitterroot Bucs 6, Calgary Bandits 5
B. Schneiter’s two-out single that scored Colby Kohlman and Blake Hinsdale was the difference maker in the 6-5 Bucs win over the Bandits.
Cale Yuzdepski went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in for the Bandits, but a strong six-inning outing by Coltin Mauler pushed the Bucs to victory.
The Bucs will face the Helena Senators on July 6 at 7 p.m. and the Bandits will face the Lethbridge Elks at 9 a.m.
Glacier Twins 9, Calgary Bandits 1
Game 2 of Day 3 was equally unkind to the Bandits as they dropped their second straight of the day, this one against the Twins 9-1.
Coby Clark-Dickinson led the way for Glacier on the mound throwing 4.2 innings, striking out nine batters to just one walk, while only giving up one unearned run.
The Bandits’ only run of the came on a Matt Dyck double in the third inning that scored Nate Horricks.
The Bandits will face the Lethbridge Elks at 9 a.m. and the Glacier Twins will face the Great Fall Chargers at 2 p.m.
Glacier Twins 14, Eastside BC 5
In the third game of the day, the Glacier Twins handed Eastside their fourth straight loss of the tournament, this time 14-5.
Eastside’s Derek Leaner went 1-for-4 with a two-run double in the bottom of the second that knotted the score at 4-4, but four Twins collected multiple hits on the day leading to 10 runs in the final three innings.
Eastside will play the Great Fall Chargers at 11:30 a.m. and the Glacier Twins will face the Great Fall Chargers immediately after, at 2 p.m.
Lethbridge 13, Butte Miners 1
The Lethbridge Elks exploded for seven runs in the second inning to win Game 4 of the day in only three innings.
Logan King opened the scoring in the second with a single to center that scored Thomas Little, and Zach Trempner was perfect in the batter’s box going 3-for-3 with two doubles and four runs batted in.
Butte’s only run came on a balk in the second inning by Kale Moser, scoring Riley Chioti.
The Lethbridge Elks will face the Calgary Bandits at 9 a.m. on July 6, and the Butte Miners will face the Helena Senators at 4:30 p.m.
Great Falls Chargers 9, Helena Senators 6
In the nightcap of Day 3 the Great Falls Chargers beat the Helena Senators, 9-6.
Andrew Paradise continued to hit extremely well for the Chargers while providing much-needed run support. After an error that loaded the bases in the third inning, Paradise ripped a line fly ball that scored three to give the Chargers a 3-2 lead.
The Senators continued to play from behind as both teams tacked on two more runs in the fourth to make it 6-4.
Ty McGurran went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in for the Senators as they tried to claw back in the game, but Cal Cromwell dominated for the Chargers, throwing 1.2 innings and giving up only two hits, while recording three strikeouts.
Both teams will play a doubleheader in the final day of play before the championship round on July 7.
The Great Falls Chargers will play Eastside at 11:30 a.m. and then the Glacier Twins at 2 p.m..
The Helena Senators will play the Butte Miners at 4:30 p.m. and then the Bitterroot Bucs at 7 p.m.
