BILLINGS – After several thunderstorms delayed the 2019 Goldsmith Gallery legion baseball tournament throughout the week, lightning struck one more time Sunday as the Colorado Lightning beat the Laurel Dodgers 13-4 in the championship game at Dehler Park.

Colorado took a 5-0 lead midway through the game, only to watch Laurel climb to within 6-4 through five innings. But the Lightning added an insurance run in the top of the sixth and then scored six more in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Ethan Sloan threw six innings for Colorado, giving up just three earned runs and striking out seven to pick up the win. Every Colorado starter recorded at least one hit, while Tyler Dinges and Ben Martin combined to go 4-9 with five RBI.

Laurel’s Connor Polkowske was 3-4 with two doubles.

The two teams advanced to the championship after semifinal wins Sunday morning. Laurel out-slugged the Williston Keybirds 16-13 while Colorado shut out the Rapid City Post 320 Stars 6-0.
