HELENA — The Missoula Mavericks picked up two American Legion Baseball conference wins Tuesday against the Helena Senators by scores of 8-1 and 5-4.
In Game 1, Missoula jumped out to a 4-1 lead through four innings and never looked back. Drew Stensrud played a major role in the game, notching two runs batted in on two hits, and scoring a run himself.
In Game 2, the Senators flipped the script early, jumping out to a 2-0 lead through three innings on singles by Ty McGurran and Matt Krieger. In the top of the fourth, the wheels fell off. Ethan Keintz loaded the bases on a single and two hit batters. Keintz did get Brendon Hill to dribble a slow roller to Krieger, but a botched fielding attempt and a single by Dane Fraser put the Mavericks up 3-2.
Both teams tacked on two runs each to finish out the game, as the Mavericks’ lead stayed true to end Game 2, 5-4.
The Senators will now head to Omaha, Nebraska for the Battle of Omaha Invitational Tournament and the Mavericks will host the Mavericks Memorial Tourney with both tournaments starting on Thursday, June 20.
