BOZEMAN – Saturday was a beautiful day for America’s pastime as the Helena Senators traveled to Bozeman to play the Bucks in a Class AA legion baseball doubleheader.
The first game started as a defensive duel between both squads, but Bozeman opened up the flood gates in the third inning. Ethan Coleman slapped an opposite-field single and one run came into score making it 2-0 heading into the fourth. The Bucks kept the offense going in the fourth, as Logan Paithorpe dropped a single over the second baseman’s head to score another run and giving Bozeman a 4-0 lead going into the fifth.
But the Senators weren’t going to roll over. Matt Kieger ripped a single through the left side and their first run of the day came across the plate, 6-1 Bozeman at this point. Later in that same inning, Rudy Barkley hit a moonshot to deep right center as part of a five-run fifth for the Senators. However, that’d be as close as they get, asBozeman held on for 7-5 win in game one.
Game two gave Helena it’s revenge, as it cruised to a 13-2 win over the Bucks. Hunter Kirkpatrick and Eithan Keintz combine to allow only two runs for the Senators, who improve to 4-2 overall and Bozeman falls to 3-3 overall.
