Missoula native Andrew Sopko will suit up for a new team this year, at a higher level than ever before in his professional baseball career.

The former Missoula Maverick and Gonzaga Bulldog will pitch for the Buffalo Bisons, the AAA affiliate of the Blue Jays. Sopko was traded to Toronto from Los Angeles this offseason. The 24-year old right-handed hurler spent the first four years of his pro career in the Dodgers organization, never climbing higher than AA.

Sopko admitted he is excited for the fresh start with the Blue Jays, a rebuilding team that could give him an opportunity in the majors this season. Sopko has started 75 of the 85 games he has pitched in the minors, going 27-17 with a 3.61 career ERA.

The Buffalo Bisons begin the International League season on Thursday, April 4th.
