OGDEN, Utah – The Billings Mustangs (14-5, 29-28) opened their seven-game road trip with a 6-3 victory over the Ogden Raptors (11-9, 37-21) in front of 4,498 at Lindquist Field on Friday.

The Mustangs began the scoring with a single run in the second. Bren Spillane doubled for the first Mustangs hit of the night. He would score two batters later on Juan Martinez’ sacrifice to center. Spillane’s double was the first of seven extra-base hits for the Mustangs on Friday, tying their season-high for extra-base hits in a game.

That lead was extended when Billings rattled off five consecutive hits for three runs in the fourth. Martinez singled in another run and Jay Schuyler doubled in two off Raptors starter Jose Chacin (6-2). Chacin made it through six innings, but allowed five runs on nine hits.

Luis Alecis (3-3) was once again impressive in the start for the Mustangs. The righty went six shutout innings on four hits. He would strike out six to extend his league lead to 61 strikeouts on the season.

Drew Mount delivered the first of his three extra-base hits in the fifth, an RBI double to score Cash Case who had doubled just in front of him. He then towered a solo home run to right in the seventh. Mount finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and a home run. It was his team-best seventh homer of the year.

Ogden scored all three of their runs over the final three innings of the night, getting just three singles in that time, but being helped along by an error and a lead-off single.

The Mustangs are now 4-1 on the year against the Raptors and have clinched a winning record against them in 2018.

The Mustangs and Raptors will play in game two of their three-game series Saturday at Lindquist Field in Ogden. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
