Billings Royals crush Alaska, keep season alive

MISSOULA – The Billings Royals scored 11 runs in the third inning on their way to a 16-3 win over Juneau, Alaska Friday afternoon in a loser-out game at the American Legion Northwest Regional Tournament in Missoula. The win puts the Royals into Saturday’s semifinals.

Dawson Smith was 3-for-4 with four RBI, and Jarret Leinwand hit his second home run of the tournament to power Billings. Carson Klompien added three hits, while Connor Hunter and Jayden Kay each picked up two RBI.

Dann Blanchard, Tucker Smith, and Sam Evenson combined to throw five innings.

The Royals will play Meridian, Idaho at 7 p.m. Saturday. Meridian is the lone unbeaten team remaining in the tournament.
