Top three seeds roll through first round at Western A District Tournament

HAMILTON – The top three seeds at the Western A district American Legion Baseball tournament all showed they deserved the high ranking. The Glacier Twins, Bitterroot Red Sox and Bitterroot Bucs each started their postseason with a victory.

The day started with a small upset, when the No. 5-seed Mission Valley Mariners clipped the fourth-seeded Kalispell Lakers 10-8.

Top-seed Glacier then hammered the No. 8-seed Libby Loggers, 13-3.

The No. 3-seed Bucs cruised past the sixth-seeded Missoula Mavericks, 10-2.

And the hosting Red Sox doubled up the visitors from Cranbrook, British Columbia. No. 2-seed Bitterroot beat the No. 7 Bandits 8-4.

The bracket rolls on starting with loser-out games on Friday. Kalispell meets Libby at 10 a.m., with Missoula and Cranbrook following at 1 p.m.

Then in the winner’s bracket, Mission Valley tries to upset Glacier at 4 p.m.. The two Bitterroot rivals collide at 7 p.m.

The two teams that make it to the championship in Hamilton will advance to the state tournament in Miles City next week.
