Five former Pioneer League baseball players will be competing in the MLB’s SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday in Washington D.C., where members from the USA and World teams square off.
Headlining the group is former Billings Mustang and No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 draft starting pitcher Hunter Greene. Greene enjoyed a brief stint with the Mustangs in 2017 before being called up to Low-A Dayton this season.
Through the first five starts of the year, Greene struggled immensely, posting an ERA of 13.97. However, over his last 10 starts, Greene has a 2.98 ERA with 50 Ks in 45 1/3 innings. Greene is MLB.com’s No. 18 prospect.
Joining Greene is centerfielder Taylor Trammell, who played in Billings in 2016. Trammell is currently with the Daytona Tortugas in High-A, where he’s hitting .295 with six home runs and 29 RBI in 78 games. Trammell is MLB.com’s No. 34 prospect.
Brendan Rodgers, a former member of te Grand Junction Rockies, is MLB.com’s No. 6 prospect. In AA this season, the shortstop has 17 home runs and 58 RBI.
Rounding out the former Pioneer League players in the All-Star gutures game are centerfielder Jo Adell and catcher Keibert Ruiz. Adell, MLB.com’s No. 36 prospect, spent the final 18 games of 2017 with the Orem Owlz, an affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels. Ruiz, the No. 44 prospect according to MLB.com, spent the majority of 2016 with the Ogden Raptors, a Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate.
Greene, Trammell, Rodgers and Adell will play for team USA, while Ruiz will suit up for team World.
The SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game first pitch is slated for 2 p.m. on Sunday on MLB Network.
