BOZEMAN – The Butte Miners, the fifth-seed in the Southern A District tournament, upset the top-seeded Belgrade Bandits in the quarterfinals, 14-10, on Friday.
The Miners opened up the game by scoring three runs in the first inning and closed it by scoring another ten runs in the final three frames. Seven Butte players recorded an RBI in the game. Miners pitcher Ryan Wahl nearly threw a complete game on the hill with 6.1 IP striking out nine batters to earn the win for Butte.
Belgrade’s Brandon Matthews led the way for the Bandits by going 1-4 at the plate with four RBI.
Butte is now one win away from punching its ticket to the state tournament. The Miners will face the Gallatin Valley Outlaws, who defeated the Helena Reps 8-2 in the undefeated semifinals.
