BUTTE — The 2019 “Tour Divide” bike race, which takes competitors roughly along the Continental Divide Trail from Alberta, Canada to Antelope Wells, New Mexico brought in Mining City native Bear Stillwagon.
Stillwagon cruised through his hometown earlier Tuesday and stopped to make repairs to his bike and get a bite to eat before continuing on in his 2,731-mile journey to New Mexico. He’s currently sitting in 16th place overall among active riders, but what’s keeping Bear motivated to finish the race is his love for biking and the many beautiful sights he’s seen along the way.
“It’s hard to describe, it’s kind of crazy. You can’t believe you’re there most of the time. Canada was so beautiful,” said Stillwagon. “Everything has been so cool. It’s just an incredible experience. But, yeah, it’s just something you can’t describe. Just being out there, riding forever, it’s just really neat.”
