GREAT FALLS – The NA3HL fans at the Great Falls Ice Plex were treated to some playoff drama when the Bozeman Icedogs met the Great Falls Americans on Friday in the first of a best-of-three game series in the Fraser Cup Playoffs.
Luke McKay got the scoring started at the end of the first period with a goal to put Bozeman up 1-0, but another goal wouldn’t be scored until halfway through the third period, when Brody Boyce found the back of the net for the Americans to tie the game at 1-1. Then, with around two and a half minutes left in the game, Great Falls took a 2-1 lead off a goal from Garrett Peters.
But Bozeman wouldn’t back down, incredibly with just thirteen seconds left in the contest, Luke Hartge tied the game at 2 with the Ice Dogs’ second goal and the game went into overtime.
In the overtime period, Great Falls sealed the deal with a goal from Jack Olson a little over four minutes into the period in a 3-2 victory. Icedogs goalie AJ Ruskowski finished with 46 saves, Americans goalie Drew Scites had 37.
Great Falls, now up 1-0 in the series, will play the Icedogs for Game 2 in Bozeman on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
