Billings Mustangs’ pitcher Alecis earns Pioneer League award

BILLINGS – Luis Alecis has been named the Pitcher of the Week in the Pioneer League for the week of June 25 – July 1. The right-hander from the Dominican Republic earned the honor after spinning seven shutout innings June 29th at Dehler Park against the Helena Brewers. He would strike out nine and allow just one hit. The four-year pro set career-highs in both innings pitched and strikeouts.

Alecis is the first Mustang to win a weekly league award this season, but Billings pitchers have won two of the last three Pitcher of the Week awards with Packy Naughton closing the 2017 season with the honor. Alecis’ nod is the earliest a Mustang pitcher has won the weekly award since Stalin Gerson in 2011.

After the career performance, Alecis boasts a 2.40 ERA and 0-1 record through three starts and 15 innings of work. He is next sheduled to start on July 4th at Dehler Park against the Helena Brewers. He is one of three players in the Cincinnati Reds system to earn player of the Week honors for this period along with Kevin Quackenbush and 2014 Mustang Taylor Sparks.
