LOLO – The Missoula Valley has its fair share of disc golf courses, but now Lolo has a place to play the game. A new course officially opened to the public Wednesday evening.
The course sits on 14 acres of land owned by Lolo School that, in the past, was piling up trash until the school decided to make use of it. They cleaned it up and turned it into a nine-hole disc golf course.
The school is now able to use disc golf in its curriculum and actually practice right in its own backyard, but it won’t just be for the school. The course is open to the public, as well.
“I think it’s huge for the community. Once they learn about it and come out and try it, it’s something they can do together,” said Lolo health and physical education teacher Brian Jacobson. “It’s an equalizer, everyone can play and everyone is pretty much the same level and can play together, so I think it’s huge for the community.”
The opening coincides with the biggest week of disc golf in the area. The Garden City Flyers host the Zoo Town Open on Saturday and Sunday. Some of the best disc golf players in the world will compete in Missoula with cash prizes on the line.
