MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Lynx have waived former Fairfield standout Jill Barta.
The WNBA squad announced the move in a release on Wednesday. The 6-foot-3 forward, who never lost a game during her high school career for the Fairfield Eagles, was a third-round selection in the WNBA Draft last month. The Las Vegas Aces drafted Barta 32nd overall, before trading her to the Lynx.
Barta appeared in one preseason game, scoring four points, grabbing three rebounds and doling out an assist. She averaged 18.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game at Gonzaga this past season, leading the Bulldogs to the women’s national tournament.
In three years in Spokane, Barta totaled 1,620 career points, 449 rebounds and 130 steals. Gonzaga won three West Coast Conference championships, with Barta securing tournament MVP honors twice. She was also a three-time WCC all-conference selection.
Minnesota also waived forward Breanna Richardson and center Vionise Pierre-Louis.
