DILLON — The first annual Beaverhead Marathon is set to take place this Saturday.
Cory Birkenbuel, Dylan Zitzer and Casey Parrott co-founded the event in an effort to encourage “people to participate in a healthy and positive event in the beautiful Beaverhead Country,” the co-founders said in a media release.
“Beaverhead Marathon’s mission is to produce a high-quality event that will attract competitors from all over the planet to participate in the race,” the release continued. “The marathon is located in one of the most beautiful valleys in Montana beckoning runners from all over the United States, including Illinois, North Carolina, Idaho, Utah and Montana.”
The marathon will begin at Horse Prairie Camp Ground near Clark Canyon Reservoir. The racers will then run along the Beaverhead River before finishing at Beaverhead Brewing Company in Dillon.
The start of the full 26.2-mile marathon will be at 8 a.m. on May 12. The half-marathon (13.1 miles) will start at 9 a.m. at the Old Montaqua water plant along the Beaverhead River. Both races will finish at Beaverhead Brewing Company.
