TACOMA, Wash. – 2017 Professional Bull Riders World Champion Jess Lockwood was injured in Round 2 of the PBR Tacoma Invitational Sunday, putting his status for next weekend’s Billings stop in jeopardy.

Lockwood was bucked off Joe Blow, with his left arm being caught in the bull rope for a moment before Lockwood could pry himself free. He held the arm gingerly as he walked out of the arena, and doubled over in pain behind the bull chutes on the CBS Sports Network broadcast.

Lockwood qualified for the championship short-go thanks to his first round score, but could not ride because of the injury.

The 20-year-old from Volborg has had an injury-plagued beginning to the 2018 season. He suffered torn MCL’s in both of his knees that kept him out of the Kansas City event in February, and missed two more events over the past month with a hand injury.

The hand injury was still bothering him as recently as Saturday night, as PBR reporter Justin Felisko said Lockwood had his hand re-stitched by Dr. Tandy Freeman and was having trouble bending his fingers Sunday.

The PBR returns to Billings Friday, the longest continuous stop on the Unleash the Beast tour. Friday and Saturday performances are scheduled to begin at 7:45 pm, with Sunday’s action getting underway at 1:45 pm.

Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil) won his first PBR elite series event of the 2018 season, going 3-for-3 over the weekend and won with an 88.25-point ride on Indian Medicine (Julio Moreno /Dallas Schott) in the championship round. The Brazilian cowboy earned 460 world points, moving from No. 11 to No. 9 in the world standings. He collected a paycheck of $34,770.

Ramon de Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil) finished second with a 2-for-3 performance, including an 88.75-point ride on Rising Sun (Dakota Rodeo/ Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Heald Pro Bulls) in the championship round. Lima reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the world standings after moving down to No. 2 on Saturday night. He earned 370 world points and $18,850.

After winning the 15/15 Bucking Battle on Saturday night, Cody Nance (Paris, Tennessee) went 2-for-3 for a third-place finish in the Tacoma Dome. Nance, who entered the weekend at No. 5 in the world standings, took on Red Bandana (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Sturve/ Staci Wikes/N Bar Ranch/ Chase Bass) in the championship round. The hot streak continued as he covered the rank bovine for 88 points and moved to No. 2 in the world standings. The Tennessee cowboy took home 230 world points and $11,385.

Veteran rider Sean Willingham (Summerville, Georgia), who was atop the leaderboard going into the championship round Sunday afternoon, went 2-for-3 to finish in fourth place. Willingham covered Lil Hank (Dakota Rodeo/ Chad Berger/ Clay Struve) for 85.5 points in Round 2, but he bucked off Like A Boss (Dakota Rodeo/ Chad Berger/ Machinery Auctioneers) after just 3.37 seconds in the championship round. Entering the weekend at No. 50 in the world standings, Willingham moved up to No. 31, taking home $8,625 and 190 world points.

Rounding out the Top 5 was Luciano De Castro (Guzolandia, Brazil), who had delivered an impressive performance on Saturday night aboard Beast of Burden (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/H&C Bucking Bulls) to win Round 1. Castro was thrown hard off Dusty’s Revenge (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/ Clay Struve/ H&C Bucking Bulls) in Sunday’s Round 2 and did not compete in the championship round. Moving from No. 2 in the world standings to No. 3, he takes home 115 world points and $7,480.

The YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the Event was the formidable Pearl Harbor (Dakota Rodeo/ Chad Berger/ Clay Struve/ H&C Bucking Bulls), who dispatched Fernando Henrique Novais (Pereira Barreto, Brazil) Sunday in the championship round after 5.89 seconds, earning a massive bull score of 47.5 and moving into the lead in the world championship bull race.
