BILLINGS – The long wait is finally over for Billings residents.

For the first time this year, golfers teed it up in the Magic City, with Lake Hills Golf Club opening part of their course Friday afternoon.

Snow still fills some fairways and areas by the greens, but crews were able to put a 10-hole loop together. Head pro Renzi Lee hopes to have the full 18 ready to go in the coming days.

Most area courses open in early February on average, so golf season is already about two months behind schedule. The long winter made today extra special.

“This is awesome, been waiting so long for this to happen,” said Lee. “Two months idle not swinging a club, not getting outside and doing this golf thing, it hurts! I mean it really hurts, almost kind of a sad feeling when you don’t get to go out and do this stuff and have the sun. I’m just glad to be out of it now, out of that winter time.”

Peter Yegen Golf Course is not far behind. They will open their back nine Saturday morning, and their front nine Sunday. Laurel Golf Club will also open a nine-hole loop on Saturday.
