(PRCA release)

DENVER – Ty Wallace would like nothing more than to start 2018 with a big win at the National Western Stock Show Rodeo.

The Colorado native grew up coming here as a spectator and started competing after joining the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) in 2013. He had his first ride here at the first performance on Thursday night and is currently tied for the lead. He came back at the Friday matinee rodeo and bettered his previous 86-point effort.

Wallace scored 87.5 points on 4L & Diamond S Rodeo’s Foolish Crimes to take the overall lead and move to the top of the second round. While there is still a lot of rodeo action to take place in the Denver Coliseum, Wallace is looking good for a qualification to the U.S. Bank Pro Rodeo Finals with his total score of 173.5 points. He will have to remain among the top 12 bull riders here to compete in the Finals on Jan. 21st.

Friday night’s rodeo saw competitors making their first appearance at the National Western Stock Show. For tie-down roper Ty Harris from San Angelo, Texas, it was a night of firsts. He is in his first year of membership in the PRCA and his first full year of competition. This was his first trip to the National Western and the first time that he has ridden his horse in the Denver Coliseum.

Then, he moved into first place in the first round with a 7.5 second round, two-tenths of a second faster than reigning Denver and world champion Marcos Costa from Childress, Texas.

There are three performances of the rodeo on Saturday at 11 a.m., 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
