AUSTIN, Texas — After receiving multiple second-team all-America finishes, Bigfork’s Makena Morley is now a first-team all-American for the first time in her NCAA Outdoor Track and Field career.
Morley, a junior at the University of Colorado, earned a sixth-place finish in the women’s 5,000-meter run Saturday at the NCAA Championships with a time of 16 minutes, 2.89 seconds. Morley’s teammate, junior Dani Jones, won the 5,000 meters in 15:50.65.
Though this marked the third season she’s competed at the NCAA Championships, it was the first Morley ran in the 5,000-meter run at the national meet. She’s finished as a second-team all-American in the 10,000-meter run all three years, including an 11th-place finish on Thursday.
Prior to this month’s Championships, Morley had won five all-America nods and helped Colorado to the team title at the Cross Country Championships last fall.
