BILLINGS – Seniors Steen Fredrickson and Matt Dillon from the Montana State University Billings baseball team were named Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District selections for the 2019 season announced by the organization on Thursday.

Fredrickson carries a 3.80 grade point average while completing his degree in finance, while Dillon holds a 3.72 GPA and is finishing his degree in health administration. “Our program is proud of these two young men representing us on the all-academic team,” said MSUB head coach Aaron Sutton. “They work extremely hard in all areas as student-athletes, and it is an honor to have them recognized. We appreciate all that they bring day-in and day-out.”

MSUB and Stanislaus State University were the only schools in District 8 to have multiple players from their teams selected to the academic all-district teams. The duo led the Yellowjackets to their first-ever Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships title on Friday, as MSUB defeated Saint Martin’s 8-5 in the title game. It was the Yellowjackets’ 11th straight win, as they improved to 33-18 overall and secured a first-ever berth into the NCAA Division II West Region Championships.

Fredrickson, who earned academic all-GNAC for the third straight season this spring, holds a 3.54 earned run average and leads the GNAC with 88 strikeouts in 81 1/3 innings pitched. The senior earned his 19th career win last week, and has gone 7-1 this season over 13 starts and an opponents’ batting average of just .223.

One of the top sluggers in the conference, Dillon is second in the league with 15 home runs and in slugging percentage at .669. The Billings native is batting .294 with 13 doubles and 41 RBIs, and is getting on base at a clip of .416 while holding a fielding percentage of .990.
