BILLINGS – The Great Northwest Athletic Conference has named Montana State University Billings junior guard Tyler Green men’s basketball player of the week for the second time this season. Green had a career high 34 points Saturday night, helping the Yellowjackets to a 96-85 victory over Rocky Mountain College at home.

MSU Billings has won GNAC player of the week for men’s basketball each of the last three weeks with Zack Rollins winning once and Green picking up the award for the second time.

“Tyler had a huge game for us against our rival and is very deserving of this award,” MSUB head coach Mick Durham said. “He’s settling into his role and also being a good leader at point guard. He has been one of our most consistent performers early this season.”

Green’s 34 points is a single game high for any player in the GNAC this season. It is also the most points scored by an MSUB player since Preston Beverly had 35 in January, 2017. Against Rocky Mountain College, Green did the most damage from beyond the arc and sank seven three pointers in the first half on just eight attempts. He finished 8-for-13 from downtown and shot 11-for-16 from the field (.688).

Green leads the Yellowjackets in scoring this season averaging 16.1 points per game. Green has shot .527 from the field including .540 from beyond the arc. He leads the team in 3-pointers (34-for-63), assists (35), steals (11), and minutes played (29.8).

The Redding, California native spent a large portion last season battling injuries but has started every game in 2018-19, helping the Yellowjackets to a 6-3 start including 2-0 in the GNAC. Green earned his first GNAC player of the week on November 26 and becomes the first player to win twice in a single season since Marc Matthews did so in December 2016.

The Yellowjackets (6-3, 2-0 GNAC) host Dickinson State (3-6, 0-1 North Star) on Tuesday, December 17 at 7 p.m. MSUB men’s basketball has won four straight games and five of the last six as they prepare to cap off the month of December at home.
