PORTLAND, Ore. – The Great Northwest Athletic Conference has named MSUB junior Tyler Green men’s basketball player of the week for his outstanding performance in the MSUB Thanksgiving Tournament over the weekend.

Green (Redding, California) recorded back-to-back 19 point games against California State Dominguez Hills and Black Hills State University for a 39 point weekend total. Green shot 6-for-16 against the Toros including 4-for-8 on 4-point attempts. He also grabbed four assists and made three turnovers while making 3-of-3 free throws. Against Black Hills State, green was 6-for-12 from the floor and 5-for-9 from beyond the arc. Again Green did not miss a free throw and added four assists in the winning effort.

“Tyler is very deserving of player of week,” commented head coach Mick Durham. “We’ve been playing a lot of games of late and Tyler is playing well and very consistent. He’s showed great leadership for us at the point guard position and had a good week scoring the ball as well.”

Green leads the Yellowjackets in scoring this season with 89 points (14.8 ppg). He is also second on the team in field goal percentage (.500), second in 3-point percentage (.500), and second in free throw percentage (.889). Green’s 23 assists ranks first on the team and he has eight steals through six games.

Last season, Green started 11 games for the Yellowjackets and averaged 12.5 points per game. He also made 45 three point shots (.338) and picked up 33 assists in 376 total minutes played. In 2018-19, Green has started all six games and has been over the 30-minute mark twice.

Green is receiving this award for the first time in his career. He is the first MSUB men’s basketball player to win player of the week since teammate Sven Jeuschede was recognized in December, 2017.

Green and the Yellowjackets will host GNAC rival Alaska Fairbanks on Tuesday November 27 at 7 p.m. The Yellowjackets are 3-3 overall after splitting a pair of non-conference games over the weekend.
