PORTLAND, Ore. – Totaling eight saves in two games and notching his first clean sheet of the season over the weekend, Montana State University Billings men’s soccer goalkeeper Ludvig Rhodin played his way to Great Northwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors announced by the conference office Monday.
The Yellowjacket shot stopper made the only save required of him in a dominant 6-0 win over Colorado Christian University on Friday. He followed with a stellar seven-save effort against Sonoma State University on Sunday, playing a major role in helping the ‘Jackets fight to a 1-1 double-overtime draw.
“Ludvig had a great weekend keeping a clean sheet against Colorado Christian, and keeping us in the game against Sonoma State,” said MSUB head coach Alex Balog. “He worked very hard in the off-season to be ready, so I am glad to see the conference recognizing his quality and work ethic.”
A senior transfer, Rhodin is in his first year with the Yellowjackets this fall. Through five matches, he has accumulated a GNAC-leading 24 saves and is averaging 4.80 per contest. He has started all five games and played all 487 minutes between the posts for the Yellowjackets. Rhodin was one of five Yellowjackets named to the Rimrock Classic all-tournament team.
MSUB (1-3-1) continues non-conference play this week, with two road matches on tap in Bismarck, North Dakota. The Yellowjackets will take on Oklahoma Baptist University on Thursday at 2 p.m. Central time, before facing the University of Mary on Saturday at 3 p.m. local time.
