LARAMIE, Wyo. — Former Billings West High School wrestling standout Jace Rhodes has officially signed to continue his career at the University of Wyoming.

Wyoming wrestling coach Mark Branch announced Rhodes’ addition, along with three others, to the Cowboys on Monday. Donny Proffit, Darrick Stacey and Hayden Walker will join Rhodes as Cowboys for the 2019-20 season.

In February, Rhodes became just the second three-time high school champion in West program history when he won the Class AA state title at 170 pounds. He joined current West coach Jeremy Hernandez as the only Golden Bears to win three individual championships. According to a UW media release, Rhodes compiled a 39-0 record his senior season, recording 23 pins. The release also indicated that Rhodes is West’s career wins leader and has been recognized as a USA Wrestling Folkstyle all-American.

Rhodes earned a 6-3 decision over Tanner Russell of Kalispell Flathead to win his 2019 championship. As a sophomore, Rhodes won the 145-pound title, defeating Butte’s Kadin Schonsberg by fall. He won the 152-pound championship as a junior, getting a 4-3 decision over Keegan Mulhill of Bozeman.

The four new Pokes will join Brooks Baker, Stephen Buchanan, Brendon Garcia, Job Greenwood, Jake Svihel and Terren Swartz, who each signed with UW last fall, as newcomers on the Cowboy roster.
