Wyoming Cowboys close Fort Myers Tip-Off Wednesday against Richmond

LARAMIE, Wyo. – Wyoming closes out play at the Rocket Mortgage by Quicken Loans Fort Myers Tip-Off on Wednesday afternoon against Richmond. It is the first meeting between the Pokes and the Spiders, as the two teams battle for third place in the tournament.

The game will be televised on FS1 with Wayne Randazzo on play-by-play and Bob Wenzel on color. Fans can watch, listen to the game and follow stats on GoWyo.com. The game will be broadcast live on radio over the 25 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network, as Dave Walsh and Kevin McKinney will call the action.

Wyoming heads into the contest with a 1-4 overall record after falling short in a comeback bid against Boston College on Monday. The Pokes are averaging 71.8 points per game, while allowing 79.4 per night. The Pokes are shooting 40 percent from the field with the opposition connecting at a 47 percent clip.

Wyoming has hit 25 threes in its last three games including tying a season-high with nine against Boston College. The Pokes are also averaging 38 rebounds per game in their last three contests after only averaging 28 per game in the first two games of the season.

The Spiders are 2-2 overall on the young season. Richmond fell to Loyola-Chicago 82-66 on Monday. Richmond has wins over Saint Francis and IUPUI. The spiders are shooting 51 percent from the field this season, while opponents are shooting 49 percent.

Richmond averages only 27.5 rebounds per game, as opponents grab 35.2 per night. The Spiders are shooting 61 percent from the free-throw line and 33 percent from behind the arc.

Senior Justin James leads the Cowboys in scoring, assists and rebounds this season. He leads the MW in scoring at 22.2 points per game, ranks fourth in the MW in rebounds at 9.0 per night and seventh in assists at 4.0. Junior guard Jake Hendricks adds 14.4 points per game. He ranks fourth in the conference in three-point field goals per game at 3.4. He hit a career-high with five against Boston College. Sophomore Hunter Maldonado, who missed Monday’s game adds 14 points per game along with eight rebounds.

The Spiders are led in scoring by Jacob Gilyard at 20 points per game. He also leads the team with 22 assists on the season. He is shooting 59 percent from the field for the season. Nick Sherrod adds 16.8 points per game and 5.3 rebounds. Big man Grant Golden adds 16.3 points per game and a team-high six rebounds.

Wednesday’s game is the first meeting between the two schools. Both teams also participated in the Cayman Islands Classic last season.

The Cowboys will take a break from action until heading to Evansville on Wednesday, Nov. 28 for a 5 p.m. MT start on ESPN+.
