LARAMIE, Wyo. – Wyoming head coach Craig Bohl praised the play of the offensive line on Friday and said he can already see positive benefits of moving former Cowboy running back Trey Woods to defensive end earlier this week. Bohl’s comments came after the 19th practice of fall camp.

“I thought we had another good practice today,” said Bohl. “We were in the stadium, getting ourselves acclimated to the turf. No injuries today — there is still some soft-tissue injuries that we should get cleaned up with some guys in the next few days.

“I was really pleased as I think our offensive line has responded well, is coming off the ball well and is doing a good job of protecting the quarterback. The main thing is they’ve really established themselves in the running game.

“Defensively, we’re moving around well, and I think the move of Trey Woods (from running back to defensive end) is really good.”

Asked if Bohl expected Woods to play right away at defensive end after the recent move, the Cowboy head coach said, “We’re probably going to play him, and as he gathers more experience at that spot there could be more playing time.”

The Cowboys will conclude the fall camp portion of practice on Saturday, Aug. 18 with a morning practice before entering their first game week of the season next week.

As his team prepares to wrap up camp on Saturday, Bohl was asked what he was focusing on as the Cowboys approach kick off of the 2018 season on Saturday, Aug. 25 in Las Cruces, N.M., versus New Mexico State.

“We need to clean up a lot of things,” said Bohl. “We’re going to have officials tomorrow (Saturday) and we need to make sure all our substitutions are clean, all our alignments are straight, because the last thing we want to have are self-inflicted penalties. We need to give everything our best shot as we get ready for New Mexico State. Game time is not too far away”
On the injury front when asked about the status of redshirt freshman offensive guard Eric Abojei, Bohl said he believed Abojei had a good chance of being cleared for full practice next Monday. Abojei did return to the practice field on a limited basis the last couple of days after going through concussion protocol.

Bohl said the Cowboys will release their first fall depth chart on Monday, Aug. 20 during his first Monday press conference of the season.

Wyoming and New Mexico State will both enter the 2018 season opener coming off bowl victories to conclude their 2017 seasons. Wyoming enjoyed a convincing win, 37-14, over Central Michigan in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, while New Mexico State captured a 26-20 overtime victory over Utah State in the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl.

The Wyoming-New Mexico State game on Saturday, Aug. 25 will kick off at 8 p.m., M.T. and will be televised on ESPN2. It is one of only four college football games next weekend in what has been tabbed “Zero Week”.
