GULF SHORES, Ala. — Alyssa Wisher, a Kalispell Flathead High alum in her sophomore year at Dickinson State, earned NAIA all-American honors on Thursday.
Wisher placed third in the women’s javelin at the NAIA outdoor track and field national championships at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium. Of her six throws, her first — a 44.98-meter mark — was the best. That placed Wisher third behind Kati Kneifl of Morningside and Alex Conley of Oregon Tech. Kneifl marked a best throw of 47.86 meters, just ahead of Conley’s 47.7.
Providence’s Shana Cosby (40.13 meters) and Carroll College’s Hope Welhaven (35.92) finished 13th and 19th, respectively, in the event.
Wisher entered the national meet after winning the javelin at the North Star Athletic Association conference meet to help the Dickinson State women to the team trophy for the third consecutive season.
While at Flathead, Wisher won one javelin medal at the Class AA state track and field meet, placing sixth during her junior season.
The NAIA outdoor track and field national championships started Thursday and will wrap up on Saturday.
