GLENDIVE — The Dawson Community College Lady Bucs are one win away from nationals after a 1-0 Game 1 victory over Kirkwood Community College of Iowa Wednesday in the District H Tournament.

It’s a best-of-three series, with Game 2 set to begin shortly after the opener.

Shelby Martin pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out six and allowing only five hits in seven innings. Martin also drove in the game’s only run. In the top of the first inning her single to left center drove in leadoff batter Trinity Anderson for a quick lead.

DCC’s April Davis went 2-for-2 at the plate with a single, a double and walk. Trinity Anderson was 2-for-4 and scored the game-winning run.

If necessary, Game 3 is scheduled for Thursday at noon in Glendive. The winner draws an automatic bid to nationals in Clinton, Mississippi, May 22-25.

DCC has never reached the D2 National Tournament.
