Dawson Community College wins 5th straight Region 13 title

GLENDIVE – The Dawson Community College Lady Bucs Softball team won their fifth straight Region 13 Championship on a cold day in Glendive Sunday.

They not only had to battle the Bay College Norse, but also the elements with a mixture of rain, snow and sleet in 38 degree temperatures. The Lady Bucs scored three in the first inning, two runs in the second and put the game away with 10 runs in the third inning to win 15-3.

Maycen O’Neal went 2-5 with a double and 2 RBI’s. Reannon Justice went 2-4 with 2 runs and 3 RBI’s which came on a three-run homer to give her 9 RBI’s in the three games of the tournament.

Freshman Shelby Martin pitched a complete game, only allowing 3 runs in 7 innings. Martin (Helena Capital) was named the Region 13 Tournament MVP, picking up 2 wins on the mound and going 6-11 at the plate with 5 runs scored and 4 RBI’s.

Head Coach Jim LeProwse was selected as the Region Coach of the Year for the 5th time. Dawson outscored their opponents 33-5 in the three games played during the Region Tournament.

The Lady Bucs will host the District Championship Game in a 3 game series on May 15-16 against the runner-up from Region 11 (Iowa). The winner of that series will automatically qualify for the National Tournament in Mississippi.
